On this paper, the understanding about how the Chilean written press constructs the mapuche culture will be propose, taking into account the news coverage of the mapuche prisoners' hunger strike to withstand the application of the anti-terrorism law in 2010.The main findings of this investigation are focused on the exclusive use of official sources for the journalistic approach of the indigenous protest, the elaboration of discursive-ideological strategies dividing them from us, and the transmission of a discriminatory and racist vision of the mapuche ethnicity through the intersemiosis of images and words from news.
