Abstract
- The disposal of wastewater containing industrial dyes into water bodies without proper treatment posing threat to the environment. This study presents the preparation of groundnut shell activated carbon (GSAC) via microwave-assisted KOH activation for methyl yellow (MY) removal from aqueous solution. The GSAC hassurface area, pore volume and pore diameter of 733.30 m²/g, 0.375 cm³/g and 2.69 nm, respectively. The best fitted adsorption isotherm for MY adsorption was Freundlich model which indicates multilayer and heterogeneous adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacities of 344.8 mg/g was achieved at 30 °C. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model describe well the adsorption kinetic. The Boyd plots indicated that the MY adsorption was mainly governed by the film-diffusion-controlled mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
