Recent years have seen a resurgence of language contact studies in Latin America. This tendency has been favored by changes in the field of linguistics, the social sciences and the humanities which have resulted in an increasing interest in linguistic diversity and in the development of more dynamic and situated approaches to language phenomena. These language contact studies have also been spurred by ideological transformations and social policies that have given visibility to both indigenous languages and peoples in the region.
