Abstract

The present paper dwells on the effect of reading fluency strategies on reading comprehension skills and reading motivation in the 4th grade Turkish lessons. In the study, students' opinions about reading fluency activities were also identified. The sample of the research consists of 59 (30 experimental and 29 control) students. In the research, mixed method which combined quantitative and qualitative data together was utilized. Descriptive statistics, the Student's t-test, Paired sample t-test and Mann-Whitney U test were administrated to analyze the quantitative data. On the other hand, content analysis was used to analyze the quantitative data collected through semi-structured interview form. The results of the study indicate that reading fluency strategies have a positive influence over the experiment group students' reading comprehension skills and reading motivation. Furthermore, it was found that the experimental group students expressed positive opinions about reading fluency strategies and practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
