Abstract

Heavy metal based oxide glass series of composition xMoO3.(40-x)M.60B2O3 (M= Bi2O3 and PbO) have been prepared by the standard melt-quenching technique. The amorphous nature of the present systems was estimated by XRD patterns. The SEM pattern has been used to study the microstructure of the sample. The effect of temperature on DC conductivity has been measured in the temperature range 523-623K for the compositions. In this temperature range, the DC conductivity increases in MoO3-Bi2O3-B2O3 glasses with increase in MoO3 content is due to small polaron hopping mechanism between Mo5+ and Mo6+ ions whereas it decreases in MoO3-PbO-B2O3 glasses with an increasing MoO3 content which is due to predominantly to Pb2+ ions.
