Abstract

Multipactor is an electron discharge driven by secondary electron emission (SEE) that plagues microwave components, accelerator structures, space-borne systems, and other related electronics. Recently, a novel theoretical approach for multipactor based on principles from nonlinear dynamics and chaos theory has been expanded to a parallel-plate geometry. In this paper, this new theory is used to construct multipactor susceptibility diagrams that portray breakdown boundaries as a function of device parameters. These results are compared to industrial design standards and particle-in-cell simulations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
