In her discussion of the paper by Sotiris Monolopoulos "Internalization process and a transference in a traumatized patient" the author is considering the clinical material from the point of view of the object relations and unconscious phantasies. The patient comes to analysis after a breakdown, wishing mainly to restore his inner balance - defensive structure, which makes extremely difficult for the analyst to establish a contact with him. The patient preserves the phantasy of relationship with a seductive object, who promises protection and food, only to then reject, betray and humiliate him; this picture justifies the patient's revengeful attacks - he then can ignore the reality of understanding and containment by the analyst. At the same time, the patient is in great need for the analyst though trying to use him perversely in the transference - without establishing and recognizing dependent relationship. However, the analyst is still associated with the hope for reparation of the damaged inner objects and getting out of the psychic retreat. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
