Abstract
- Endemic species are that exist only in one geographic region and an important part of the natural heritage of a country. There are 139 native reptiles in the Turkey, nigh teen of which are endemic. It is documented that nigh teen Turkish endemic species of reptiles composed of nine lizards and ten snakes. The reptilian and amphibian endemics constituted 13.7% of the total reptile species of Turkey. To date, known endemic species include in ten genera and five families. The Lacertidae with 8 (42.1% of endemic species) endemics is ranked first. All of the known endemic species encountered are of known conservation status based on the 2018 IUCN Red Data List. Among eco-regions, the eastern Mediterranean conifer-sclerophyllous broadleaf forest contains the highest number of endemics (8 species, 42.1%). The highest number of endemics among the phytogeographic (11 species, 57.9%) is found in the Irano-Turanien. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
