Abstract

Discusses the difficulties of mainstream secondary classroom teachers in Great Britain in dealing with problem pupils who can not be handled even by specialist teachers. Impact on the mainstream classroom of pupils with learning and behavioral problems; Characteristics of pupils, such as low numeracy and literacy skills, emotional and behavioral difficulties, dysfunctional family life, parental neglect and alienated due to persistent failure to do well; Inability of a multi-agency group, which includes psychologists and special project literacy teachers, to do more for problem children.
