Abstract

The article discusses the significance of women in establishing memorials and monuments honoring the Confederacy in the U.S. South following the U.S. Civil War. The article examines the efforts of groups such as the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) to honor Confederate veterans and attempt to persuade Northerners that what is termed as the Lost Cause was honorable and just. It also discusses the UDC in the 21st century and its attempts to distance itself from hate groups.
