Abstract

This article intends to make some reflections on the metapsychology of the transgressive act, which we perceive as the incidence of a joint operation of the primary masochism, the superego and the death drive. In fact, we believe that these three concepts are so interlaced that, thinking about the functioning of one of them enforces, automatically, into call the others, if we wish to consider a more comprehensive overview regarding the metapsychology. Our guide for this endeavor are the Freudian constructions of the early twenties, specifically: Beyond the Pleasure Principle (1920), The Ego and the Id (1923) and The Economic Problem of Masochism (1924). Our starting point is the idea that, if in the 1920 work, the death drive can be considered only a speculative hypothesis, it is only in his 1923 work that Freud articulates, in a more efficient manner, the theoretical and clinical tools that allows the solidification and integration of this notion. Finally, with the help of Freudian descriptions about "criminals by guilt feelings", we elaborate a brief explanation about the incidence of this trio from "hell" in the realization of the transgression, trying to set a thorough scenario with respect to the metapsychology that underlies this action.
