Synthesis, Characterization and Liquid Crystal Properties Study of NovelNematic Liquid Crystal Compound.

A series ofnovel N1-(6-((4-(alkyloxy)benzylidene)amino)pyridin-2-yl)-N4-(6-((E)-(4- (alkyloxy)benzylidene)amino)pyridin-2-yl)terephthalamidewere prepared from N1,N4-bis(6-aminopyridin-2- yl)terephthalamideand 4-alkoxy benzaldehydesby thermal condensation reaction in absolute ethanol at reflux condition. The structure of the target compounds were elucidated by FT-IR spectral data and determining the elementscontent(C.H.N%). The liquid crystal properties of these products were studied by measuring the values of the phase transition temperatures by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the texture of mesophases by using optical polarizing microscopy (POM).The target compounds showed significant liquid crystal properties.
