Abstract: Demonstrates that the Gal repressor inhibits transcription from the gal promoter (P1) when it binds to the cognate operator (OE). Relief of repression by the presence of the inducer D-galactose; Binding of D-galactose to the repressor-operator complex with tenfold reduced affinity.
