This paper aims at a brief discussion of the importance that companies in the library sector had and still have in the development of libraries. It also addresses the steps towards improvements in these alliances in order to enhance their management and their results. This paper also analyzes the projects carried out over the past few years in the library of the University of Almería, from the point of view of the university's inherent commitment towards knowledge transfer for the service of society. Good examples of these projects are the international development projects for cooperation funded by the Andalusian Agency for Development Cooperation in Perú and Paraguay or, indeed, the greatest impact project in Almeria: the design and start-up of the "José María Artero" Central Library.
