Abstract

In stressing the originality of Revueltas' notions, Draper may have overstated the differences between him and early-twentieth-century European Marxists with a libertarian bent who also criticized the statist versions of communism. Draper also briefly challenges some political prescriptions by the US-based scholar and community activist, George Ciccariello-Maher. Like Draper, these writers argue that most social-movement scholarship today highlights the decisions of leaders of social movement organizations (who are typically men) and their dreams of transforming, overthrowing, or controlling the state.
