Abstract

Also, not to be forgotten, was the importance of countries having ratified the predecessor, Convention 107 (remaining in force in 17 countries) and its role in facilitating dialogue in countries like Bangladesh. She also stated that the ratification of the Convention had reduced the level of conflict between indigenous peoples and the government encouraging other states to also ratify the Convention. More than 70 countries, it was mentioned, have been asked to ratify C169 in the Universal Periodic Review and 40 countries through the treaty bodies underlining important complementarities. From the lack prioritisation in the regular ILO budget to lack of UN-wide ownership, ratifying countries were encouraged to work with the ILO Governing Body to increase funding for indigenous rights issues.
