Abstract
- Summary: Melanoma‐associated retinopathy (MAR) is a rare paraneoplastic autoimmune manifestation of cutaneous malignant melanoma. Patients classically present with acute onset night blindness, positive visual phenomena and visual field defects, and typically have significantly reduced quality of life as a result. Early recognition of MAR is of prognostic significance as it can precede the diagnosis of primary or metastatic malignant melanoma, and early treatment can lower the risk of irreversible immunological damage to the retinal cells with improved visual outcomes. The focus of our review article is therefore to raise awareness of MAR and present the latest evidence relating to the investigation and management of this condition.
