The complete mitochondrial genome of Cobitis macrostigma (Cypriniformes: Cobitidae: Cobitinae) and a phylogenetic implication for its closely related species.

Abstract

Cobitis macrostigma, a small-sized benthic fish species, is an endemic species distributing in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of C. macrostigma was first sequenced and the phylogenetic relationship with its closely related species was estimated. It was 16,573 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNAs, 22 tRNAs and a control region. The total base composition was A 29.6%, T 28.1%, C 25.7%, G 16.6%, with A + T content of 57.7%. This species shared the same gene composition and structural arrangement of mitogenome with other Cobitidae fish. Phylogenetic analyses showed that C. macrostigma has a relatively close relationship with other 18 Cobitinae species and was closer to Cobitis qujiangensis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
