Abstract
- The article discusses teaching college-level introductory courses in history at the California State University system and developing students' skills to align with those typically used by historians such as the use of primary sources, comparing and analyzing differing accounts of the same events, and the importance of building an understanding of American history as a part of citizenship and shared knowledge held by civic society. It also considers how aggregating data related to grades and classes can cause shifts in education policies related to core curricula.
