Abstract
- The article focuses on mails from readers about the fruitcake question in U.S. politics. Since the administration of U.S. President Ronald Reagan left Washington, thus removing from the national spotlight all those economists who predicted deficits by plucking at pigeon entrails while costumed as Eleanor of Aquitaine, there are very little mail on that sort of fruitcake question. Nobody seems to think that the old Washington hands Bush brought back into government are likely to do anything truly wacky. Even at this late date, there are mails from readers who claim to have read an article in "Reader's Digest" saying that the real George Gipp actually died while he was at Notre Dame, just the way the movie said he did.
