Abstract

With the Democratic Convention behind them, labor leaders are turning their attention— and their union dollars— to grassroots efforts to register voters and boost turnout on election day, Nov. 2. The laborers and other building trades unions have some of the most active grassroots programs, which have been building from previous election cycles, Don Kaniewski, legislative and political director of the laborers' union believes. Support for the Davis-Bacon prevailing wage law and ensuring workers' rights to organize a union are two key topics that labor leaders point to. One of the most important tissues in this election will be health care, says a building trades union source.
