Abstract

In this article the author talks about for inmates, fostering relationships with family during their incarceration is important to their success once they are released into the community. Topics discussed include Scholars find that maintained or increased family ties during incarceration can lead to lower recidivism rates for offenders, and McKiernan and colleagues discuss the effects of the Creating Lasting Family Connections program on recidivism rates of released offenders.
