Abstract

The 2030 Agenda, an action plan proposed by the United Nations (UN) to achieve sustainable development on a global scale, involves various key actors, including universities. The strategy elects 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which together have 169 targets. In the health area, this commitment implies the transversal profile and the potential for integration of the SDG 3, Good Health and Well-Being, with the other objectives. Health is an object of knowledge that is characterized, in the academic field, by interdisciplinarity; and in the work field, by multiprofessional action. The responses of university to the SDGs can be developed by articulating the extension, research and education actions. This paper presents the knowledge in health based on evidence and the one based on the community, recognizing that the former, that is, the scientific one, has to be combined with the latter. It is worth to emphasize the integration between the SDG 3, Good Health and Well-Being; SDG 2, Zero Hunger; and SDG 4, Quality Education; all of this anchored by the participatory perspective of the Knowledge to Action Framework. The paper concludes that, by recognizing the academic space in the response to the SDGs, the role of researchers and other social actors engaged in the implementation of this agenda is also recognized.
