Abstract

The article focuses on the reluctance of U.S. President Donald Trump to give in to appeals by officials to use the War Act to compel private companies to produce medical supplies and gear to protect front-line workers from the coronavirus. Topics covered include his assurance to the public on March 21, 2020 that help for hospitals is on the way and that companies have agreed to deliver the supplies, and not interfering with market forces as the reason cited by Trump in not using the War Act.
