Abstract

[Objective] This paper aimed to provide a reference for the further study of rice C24-sterol methyltransferase 2(OsSMT2)gene. [Method]The physicochemical properties, structural characteristics, enrichment analysis of co-expressed genes, cis-acting elements of promoters and expression patterns of OsSMT2 were analyzed. [Result] The CDs of OsSMT2 gene was 1092 bp, encoding a protein of 363 amino acid with a methyltransferase domain and a C-terminal sterol methyltransferase domain. The OsSMT2 gene contained no signal peptide, and had a transmembrane domain. GO and KEGG Pathway Enrichment Analysis showed that the co-expressed genes of OsSMT2 were mainly enriched in the process of DNA replication and biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. Analysis of the promoter cis-elements revealed that the OsSMT2 maight be involved in the cold and drought resistance in plants. Expression pattern analysis showed that OsSMT2 had the highest expression in the germinated seeds and the lowest expression in the leaves. [Conclusion] OsSMT2 is mainly expressed in germinated seeds, radicle and germ, and participates mainly in the process of rice DNA replication and cell division. It can be used as a candidate gene for rice cold-resistant and drought-resistant breeding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
