Abstract
- The tumor of the Sertoli cells is a common neoplasm in non-neutered male dogs of advanced age, generally showing benign behavior. The testicular growth the first signal for suspects of the affection and ultrasound can be used to locate and characterize it. However, histopathological analysis is necessary for the definitive diagnosis and orchiectomy is the most indicated treatment. This work aims to report a case of sertolioma in a 13-year-old domestic Shetland Shepherd dog treated at Hospital Veterinário Sylvio Barbosa Cardoso of the State University of Ceará in September 12th of 2019 with right testicular enlargement. A testicular clinical and ultrasound evaluation was performed, where an echogenic image of heterogeneous echotexture was seen in the right testicular parenchyma with evident internal vascularity After the performance of hematological and cardiac exams, the animal was forwarded to bilateral orchiectomy. The histopathological report concluded the presence of a neoplasm that reproduces Sertoli cells of the intratubular type. The animal received recommendations to be under observation, and to perform periodic exams mainly in association with its advanced age. The sertolioma presents a low metastatic potential, not being necessary the association with other treatments, nonetheless, requiring caution and attention of the veterinarian, once the confirmation of the cure is made necessary for the realization of periodic exams with the veterinarian monitoring.
