Abstract

The article focuses on the Mexico's president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has struggled to balance a response to the coronavirus with the economic needs of a country in which over half of the population lives hand-to-mouth, working informal jobs, without a safety net; and played down the severity of the coronavirus' threat, allowing soccer tournaments, concerts and preparations for the busy spring tourist season to continue even as neighboring countries shutdown.
