Abstract
- The following article explores the 20st and 21st century Venezuelan crime novel. Its main objective is to analyze the particular characteristics of the noir genre in this Latin American country through its four essential pillars: crime, the detective, the victim and the victimizer. The paper shows the evolution of crime novel in Venezuela, with special attention to the relevant writers during 20th century. In this way, the paper thinks about the unity and diversity of Venezuelan crime novel and his value as instrument of cultural identity. Many of the contemporaries writers have been recognized the power of this narrative and the usefulness of its resources. Within this panorama, the contribution that women writers have given has been very important for the Venezuelan crime novel. An wide part these narratives, rather than felling about the pursuit of the criminal or the discovering of the truth, narrate the deciphering of way of being and living in the midst of violence of the great Venezuelan cities.
