Abstract

This article covers issues concerning the computer industry as of October 2004. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act protects copy protection systems, letting inferior products succeed by relying on a legal loophole. It also hinders innovation. Examples of Internet flaws include: sites that affect browser home page; download that come with spyware; and, services that users cannot unsubscribe from. Hewlett Packard launched programs to recycle personal computers, printers and ink cartridges. Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, and Costco make it easier to collect rebates by printing out separate rebate receipts at the cash register. Apple Computer charges $129 for one copy of OS X Panther operating system and $199 for a five-license family pack.
