Abstract

In a recent issue of the European Archives of Otorhinolaryngology journal, Molnár et al. [[1]] presented an interesting work in which the authors investigated the effectiveness and safety of intratympanic (IT) gentamicin in patients affected by Meniere's disease (MD) based on the vertigo diaries and pure tone audiogram results. The authors showed that patients affected by MD treated with low dose IT gentamicin (8 mg) had an improvement of vertigo attacks without developing a higher risk of hearing loss. In a previous study from our group [[2]], we treated 48 patients with unilateral intractable MD with 1 to 5 IT administrations of 10 mg gentamicin every 2 weeks and observed a significant reduction of vertigo episodes with good hearing preservation.
