Abstract
- The article presents the author's comments on the paper "We Need Both Professions. Neither Is Likely to Eliminate the Other." The author says that one needs to merely scan the works of popular 19th Century Protestant preachers to find their exhortations to follow the path of good conduct and to avoid the pitfalls of evil. The Catholic preachers of this period did not ignore the reality of sin. However, the paper claimed that people generally doubt the reality of virtue nowadays but this is not true because psychiatrists are trying to make their patients behave in a way which, in the old days, would have been called virtuous.
