Abstract
- The article presents information about the book "The Self and the Dramas of History," by Reinhold Niebuhr. The book is preoccupied with the three concerns that run through biblical tradition and give it its characteristic aspect, the concerns that center on personality, community, and history. In this work, Niebuhr with explicit reference to scholar Martin Buber begins with the self and its inwardness. "Man," he says, "is obviously distinguished from other creatures by some marked capabilities and qualities." He sees the uniqueness of man in the three "dialogues" in which man is involved. The book says that the self is a creature, which is in constant dialogue with itself, with its neighbor, and with God.
