Abstract
- The fifth publication in the Getty Conservation Institute's (GCI) series, I The Artist's Materials i is dedicated to the American artist Sam Francis. In the case of Francis, the book makes accessible not only the beauty of what we see as the final image of the artwork, but also the fascinating complexity of what is behind it. It also contains archival photographs of the different studio settings where the artworks were created and of the materials used by Sam Francis as well as images of the artist at work, which, as we learn from the authors, are rare, since he didn't like very much to be observed while working.
