Abstract

Concentration upon aggregate levels of voting behaviour and the two party system have obscured the persistence of electoral co-operation in multi-party systems in British local politics. This article examines the factors contributing to successful electoral co-operation, particularly, a favourable local political culture and elite interaction. This article shows such co-operation to be unstable in the long run. The focus for the study is the Bolton and Huddersfield constituencies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
