Abstract

The article presents information about abstracts of various papers that will be discussed at the Discussion Group of the 6th European Congress on Epileptology that will be held on May 31, 2004. One of the papers that will be discussed is "Facial Expressions: Perspectives From Human Ethology," by W. Schienfenhoevel. In the growing field of evolutionary psychiatry renewed emphasis is given to the fact that neuroethology and evolutionary biology in general can help to better understand psychiatric symptoms and pathogeneses. Fixed action patterns are a very important part of normal behavior and are very likely to underlie much of psychiatric symptomatology. Other papers that will be discussed are "Intracerebral Recording of Hyperkinetic and Emotional Seizures," by S. Francione and "Functional Anatomy of Paroxysmal Emotional Manifestations in Frontal Lobe Seizures," by P. Chauvel.
