Franz Xaver Kroetz is considered as a typical representative of social realism in Germany. His plays are essentially about family life situations in a rural or proletarian milieu. "Mensch Meier" is about the problem of social advancement in a family. Their everyday life is characterised by fear of loss of her husband's job and the detachment of her wife and son from their domestic environment. The article shows how successful steps in professional everyday life are reflected in changes of linguistic behaviour. This development is described in dialogue sequences using dialogue analysis. Values, norms and social rules are important when dealing with the characters and how they are expressed by the characters.
