Reports that former Connecticut Governor John G. Rowland's co-chief of staff, Peter N. Ellef, was indicted on charges of racketeering. Resignation of Rowland in July 2004; Comments made by Jodi Rell, who succeeded Rowland as governor; Report that the governor's deputy chief of staff, Lawrence Alibozek, pleaded guilty in March 2003 to having steered state contracts in exchange for cash and gold coins; Indictment against William A. Tomasso, a contractor; Report that the defendants were charged with conspiracy to commit theft or bribery of federal funds, racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering, mail and wire fraud, and theft of honest services.
