Abstract: The article discusses highlights of the 2020 Modern Language Association conference session titled "Super Sonic Chicanidades" concerning Chicana/o sound in music, literature, film, and other expressions of popular culture. Highlights include the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mariachis who serenade people in local restaurants, how Spanish-language radio constructs a translational spatial and aural home of Latinas/os in the U.S., and the role of audio in immigration rights campaigns.
