So-called "missionary" photographs are material objects shaped by multiple operations and different views. This article aims to study the photographic practices in the mission field, the collection of images owned by missionary organizations in France and the circulation of photographs between their multiple spaces of conservation and use. Based on the photographic collections of the Société des Missions évangéliques de Paris and the Oeuvres Pontificales Missionnaires , it attemps to define what photographs are in the missionary context and which functions they are given.
