Still Diaconal Work and Theology? – Responses from the New Testament and its Surroundings The present study deals with the origins and motivational contexts of such social welfare work, which in Germany is known as 'Diakonie'. For this purpose, this article follows an exegetical-hermeneutical approach, which brings the social and caring activities of ancient associations into a discussion with NewTestament texts on this topic.
