Abstract

In this present work, we learn about the impact of molecular weights (MWs=150, 600, 4000) of capping agent (polyethylene glycols (PEGs)) on thin film of cadmium sulfide (CdS) layered by chemical bath deposition (CBD). The sample was inspected using X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–vis absorption, photoluminescence (PL), scanning electron microscope (SEM), surface wettability and DC electrical conductivity studies. XRD pattern revealed that the higher order of PEG orients hexagonal phase structure. A topographical image appears surface modification was enhanced by increasing MW of capping agent. Optical studies confirm that the capping agent has significantly influenced films. Surface wettability analysis exposed that an angle of contact increased in the range of 44-149°. The DC electrical characterization illustrates PEG performs a major role in activation energy and electrical conductivity of thin films. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
