Abstract

Based on Colette Guillaumin’s argument that confinement in space is one of the main means of appropriation of the class of women by the class of men, this article shows how international policies for the prevention and care of victims of trafficking have contributed to the deployment of logics of appropriation and immobilization of women. Taking the anti-trafficking programs developed between Laos and Thailand as a field of study, three levels of confinement of women in space are identified: the deterring and prohibiting of poor and unaccompanied girls and women from crossing international borders, the immobilization of those identified as victims of trafficking in rehabilitation centers, and finally the incorporation of closure and devalued work through the teachings and rules promoted in these spaces.
