A review of published studies on women's attachment in the perinatal period points out the dual position of women. In this challenging period, they are both vulnerable and responsible. We propose the idea of synchronous and complementary activation of motivational systems of attachment and caregiving, and we highlight the role of professionals involved in this key period.
