Abstract

The penstocks of CCS Hydropower Station in Ecuador are characterized by deep buried depth and high waterhead. The conventional lining design leads to much reinforcement. The permeable lining is adopted in the CCS penstock. The coupling analysis of the seepage field and the finite element structure of the concrete lining was carried out and the permeable lining reinforcement was calculated. The result shows that the lining concrete can meet the stress requirements under the condition of completion and maintenance. For operating condition, the reinforcement needed by the permeable lining is quite small. For water hammer condition, the reinforcement needed by the permeable lining is quite large compared with the operating condition. The permeable lining is suitable in practice, and it can greatly reduce the amount of reinforcement compared with the conventional lining. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
