Abstract

The results of high-speed laser welding of AA5083 aluminum alloy are obtained. It is shown that at high welding speed the strength of the welded joint was 93% of the base metal strength. Electrochemical corrosion tests were carried out in order to establish the places of softening of the welded joint. It is shown that the fusion zone of the weld metal with the base metal is mostly exposed to pitting corrosion. The parameters of the corrosion process have been determined. The calculations showed an average decrease in the corrosion resistance of the weld compared to the base metal. The analysis suggested that this approach in welding is reasonable and applicable to manufacturing processes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
