Abstract

There are many books on Thomas Telford but very little has been written about William Hazledine, so this fills a welcome gap and in particular provides some balance to the more famous civil engineer's own somewhat biased autobiography of 1838, I Life of Thomas Telford i . The strength and value of the partnership between the engineer and the ironmaster is sympathetically covered in Andrew Pattison's book and we can now see what a massive contribution Hazledine made. However, given his importance in supplying the ironwork for many of Thomas Telford's works, it is surprising how little there is published about William Hazledine, so this book goes a long way to addressing that.
