Abstract

The purpose of this work is to analyze the main factors causing flood risk in the Mindu Igarapé located in the urban area of Manaus City. For this, fieldwork was carried out between 2017 and 2019 and along the 18.2 km of extension of the Igarapé, morphometric parameters of the hydrographic basin, precipitation data, river quota and anthropic factors were analyzed. The morphometric parameters analyzed indicate that the risks to flood are low in the basin of the Mindu Igarapé and only the drainage density can promote the occurrence of floods. The floods in the Mindu Igarapé are mainly associated with anthropic alterations and soil occupation in the basin. It's observed that between the years of 1992 and 2018 there was a significant increase in deforestation and urban agglomeration, with a higher urban concentration in the upper basin, and higher concentration of vegetation in the middle basin. The engineering changes in the channel, mainly adjustments, and the dredging process prove to be inefficient for flood control. Floods are more conduits to take place in the months of November to April, period that has the largest precipitations occur in the basin and the Igarapé is in its flood process.
