Abstract

This paper proposes a stochastic model to predict the joint shear capacity of reinforced concrete interior beam column joint specimens. A database of the test results obtained from experiments on interior beam column joints was compiled for analysis. The parameters affecting the joint shear strength were identified, and a multiple log-linear regression model for predicting shear capacity was developed. Concrete compressive strength, joint transverse reinforcement, and column axial load were identified as the variables that positively affect the joint shear strength. The model identified concrete compressive strength as the most significant variable that contributed to the shear strength. Bond deterioration of beam bars and the joint aspect ratio were observed to have adverse effects on the shear strength. The developed model was validated by testing 12 interior joint specimens loaded to failure under quasi-static cyclic loading. The model provided consistent results between the estimated and measured joint shear strengths. The calibrated model can be implemented for effectively predicting the interior joint shear strength under seismic lateral loading. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
