Abstract

In this book Joanna Tague traces Africa's decolonization from the perspective of Mozambicans displaced from Portuguese-ruled Mozambique and living in Tanzania during the 1960s and early 1970s. Even after 1967, when international refugee law was formally extended to Africa, there were significant differences between the approaches to refugees taken by African states and various humanitarian organizations working with the displaced. The term denoted displaced people affiliated with liberation movements, who were refugees according to Tanzanian law but were not available for refugee aid from UNHCR's perspective.
