Quem são os educandos do Curso Interdisciplinar em Educação no Campo - Licenciatura da Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul, Campus Laranjeiras do Sul, Paraná?

This study aims to identify the profile of the students admitted at the Federal University of Fronteira Sul, Campus Laranjeiras do Sul, State of Paraná, Brazil in the Interdisciplinary program in countryside education. It was taken into consideration the distinctiveness of the creation of this institution and the importance of being settled at the Campus Laranjeiras do Sul located in the Cantuquiriguaçu territory where a remarkable family and peasant agriculture persists. The Program focuses on graduating qualified professionals to work at rural schools. A field survey was conducted with 47 students enrolled in the early four academic terms in order to understand the socioeconomic and academic profile. Two distinctive conclusions could be inferred: on one hand, the institution has fulfilled its role in meeting popular demands, strengthening the process of expansion of free public higher education to a historically forgotten region and population, on the other hand, a problem faced by the program: truancy.
